Blizzard!

Jersey City is getting hit by a blizzard! I have seen worse before,
but if it continues tomorrow, it will be one of the biggest blizzards
to hit us in a while. These pictures are the views I have from my
window right now. I can usually see the NY skyline and the Hudson
river, but as you can see, all I see are the buildings on my street.

The snow is also sticking, so its piling up fast. I wanna go make a
snowman right now!

Beet and Carrot Juice

Here's the recipie for my beet and carrot juice for those who were
asking for it. Its simple and the best thing you can find for anemia.
It was given to my mother by a doctor who knows natural medicine and
works in third world countries where anemia is abundant, so this stuff
is strong.

Ingredients: 2 medium sized beets, 2 carrots, 2-3 oranges, plain
oatmeal(not the ready to cook kind) and sugar or honey to taste.

Peel and cut the beets in fourths, and peel the carrots and chop them
up a bit. Drop the beets and carrots in a juicer and juice them. Put
everything, pulp and all, in the blender, add a cup of oatmeal(more if
you really like oatmeal) and blend it all together. Strain the mixture
twice and put the juice in the blender. Put the pulp away to be used
in cooking if you wish. Add the orange juice and sugar or honey and
mix. Pour the juice in a cup and enjoy!

This is enough for about 4 people. Drink it quickly though, because
beet juice starts losing its nutrients after a day.

Craft Swap Update!

Who doesn't love free stuff? As an update to my Craft Swap post, i've
decided to make a group on My Craft Corner for the swap. It'll be
easier on everyone that way. Members of My Craft Corner can join the
swap and upload pictures of what they have so it'll be easier for
everyone to know what others have. That way they can pick who to give
their supplies away to and who they'll get supplies from. This is more
like a giveaway, but everyone wins!

If you aren't already an MCC member, join now and meet more great crafters!

http://www.mycraftcorner.com

As a side note, if you don't have anything to give, feel free to trade
one of your finished products for supplies!

Recipie: Spanish Mangu (Mashed Green Plantains)

Here's a family recipie for a spanish dish called Mangu.
Mangu(pronounced man-goo) is a typical dinner or breakfast dish in the
Dominican Republic and is usually paired with spanish fried salami.
The recipie is for two people.

You can find green plantains in spanish grocery stores and big
supermarkets. They're called 'platanos verdes' and are easy to confuse
with the wider 'platanos maduros', or ripe plantains, which are NOT
bananas.

Ingredients: 3 green plantains, mayo, butter, and salt to taste.
Optional ingredients: cream cheese, fried salami.

Fill a medium sized pot 1/3 with water and a pinch of salt, enough to
cover the plantains well, and set it to boil. Peel the plantains with
a knife and rinse them. Set them in the pot to simmer about 10-15 min,
until the plantains are well cooked. Drain them and put them in a
bowl, then mash them well with a fork, mixing in a spoonfull of butter
and mayo, and if you want, cream cheese.

Now just fork it into a bowl and add salami. Enjoy!

Yarn Making Class!

Tomorrow im heading to the Stockinette Knitting Cafe to learn how to
turn wool into yarn! Im so excited! The Cafe is a great place to hang
out and just knit, and they even have a group of knitters meet once a
week! I haven't been able to go and I finally got a chance now. They
say they're gonna teach me to dye yarn too! So i'll be able to
recreate the whole yarn making process. I'll post about how it went
tomorrow. Hope everyone's weekend is just as good!

Craft Swap!

Well, lately i've been organizing my 'craft space'. And now I have a
bunch of craft supplies I know i'll never use but I can't throw out.
Well, why not find a good home for my stuff trading with someone else?

A craft swap is essentially where crafters exchange supplies they
don't use anymore with other crafters, so everyone ends up with fresh
supplies!

So now, lets talk rules:

- The swap has to happen in the US, or the crafter getting the items
has to be willing to pay for shipping if its international.

- The swap has to have a similar value. You can't exchange a box of
paints for a small packet of beads(unless the beads are valuable)

- Please, for everyone's sake, the items must be clean. Or at least
presentable. If the fabric is stained with jam, DON'T trade it.

- Have fun! And invite your friends! This swap is open to all crafters
of all types.

Everyone who is interested comment here with contact info and i'll
post the official swap and list of crafters in another post.

Thanks!

Featured Etsy Crafter: Spirit of Giving

Who doesn't love etsy? I do, and to spread my obsession, im starting a
series of posts of great etsy crafters, and first up is Becky's shop
Spirit of Giving.

She makes cute hooded towels, burp clothes and various other one of a
kind baby items. She's inspired by her kids, who help her get to know
her products, figuring out what a mom uses and what kids actually
like. Plus she reads blogs to help her get inspired creatively.

And why etsy? She has a friend that sells on etsy who got her looking
and after checking it out Becky decided to give it a try. And
according to her "I haven't looked back since!" Becky uses etsy, like
most moms, at naptime and after the kids are put to bed. Though she's
done craft shows, etsy is her best venue because of the custom nature
of her items. She also loves to buy supplies on etsy, since you buy
from home and you can participate in the etsy community.

Visit her today at http://www.spiritofgiving.etsy.com

Attracting Buyers

How do you package your handmade items? Whether its food, clothing,
art, furniture, or anything, everyone has a certain store that stands
out to them. And i've been giving it much thought lately. I noticed
that i've always been attracted to packaging that way cute and had
personal touches, and so is most of the world.

I personally like to buy food from cute little restaurants and
bakeries and clothes from stores that have a cozy feel to them. And
what these store owners tend to do is package up their products in
cute packaging that makes you feel good just looking at it.

Whether its something as simple as an extra button in a little folded
piece of pretty paper pinned to the dress to jelly in a custom jar
with a heart shaped sticker closing, these touches signify handmade
items made with love. So if you sell handmade, remember that its the
little things that count. Loving touches that makes us feel like the
seller cares and has poured their whole heart into this one item.

first got there and later on in the afternoon. The place was so
amazing that I didn't want to leave.

Graffiti for a Cause?

Saw this on a wall today. It made me laugh a little. Did a homeless
guy do it? Was it a nice graffiti artist? We tend to have graffiti
artist around here that legally tag abandoned buildings for a good
cause. So could it be "good" graffiti? Any ideas?

Fall Weather

Its slowly getting colder and fall is around the corner! Yes, I know,
it gets cold and rainy, and people miss summer... But I love all
weather and all seasons. I love fall colors especially, because of all
the deep, earthy tones. I love plumbs and deep greens and burnt
oranges and dark reds. And i'll take advantage if my love of these
colors to incorporate them in my fall purses and photography...

Now tell me, what colors are you looking forward to this fall? And
what do you like most about this cozy colored season? The beautifull
leaves? The warm, fuzzy sweaters? Welcome the change of seasons!(and
the hot cocoa. Mmmm...)

Latest Items

Here's two lunch bags I made. This brown one is lined with vinyl.

And this one is smaller. Good for a little girl. It even has an outer pocket good for small snacks or a note.

This is a knitted tote. Very durable, stretches to fit a lot, and It can be worn as a messenger bag. And a purple reversible tote. I made one for me too and I use it to store lunch. But you can use it for anything.

Beautifull night

I was outside last night and THIS is what the sky looked like. Its was
so breathtakingly beautifull! That's probably not a word, but who
cares?? Just look at that sky... I haven't seen that in a long time.
Its amazing how this earth was made so well... sometimes I think we
don't deserve it, and we don't. But here we are... so we have to take
care of this gem or we won't be able to see such beautifull sights
anymore...

Artist market

Im so excited! I found out there's a nice arts and crafts market
that's held in downtown jersey city every friday! I signed up to
participate and to rent a table is just $25! Things can't get much
better... But this brings me to the question, who has already been to
a craft fair/artist market? I've never attended one before, so im
nervous. I've worked in retail before so I know how to handle
customers, but retail means set prices and already laid out customer
service rules... can anybody give me some advice?

Well, im Jessy, I like sewing, knitting, writing, painting, graphic design, gotjic lolita, anime, manga, and a million other things. I just love everything, I guess. I usually blog from my phone, so don't be surprised if most of my post are text message short, just bear with me please... I wanted to start off promoting my etsy shop: mullberrycrafts.etsy.com I sell most of my crafts there, and I'd love to see other etsy shops and sellers, so feel free to post your shop address here. Pretty: One Hundred!

Pretty: One Hundred!
Today I finally get to fix up this blog on an actual computer, not just on my cell, so it'll finally reflect me, not some pre-made template...
Which brings me to the next subject: Why so many websites to manage? Sometimes I feel like some sort of robot or something. What if I forget all my passwords?
My other sites:
mullberrycrafts.etsy.com
mullberrycrafts on twitter,
same username on Facebook and Livejournal.
And of course email: mullberrycrafts@yahoo.com

Any other Etsy sellers out there? I'd love to see what others can make... I've always been a big fan of everything handmade.
I wonder sometimes why i've been raised to be so judgmental and yet im so open minded... Could it be because of where I was raised? Who my friends are?
Here's my water bottle cover, also purple. I have too many purple things:
